Marconi Interactive Systems partnered with Airpath Wireless to provide wireless networking
Marconi Interactive Systems (Nasdaq: MRCIY), manufacturers of payphones, webphones and kiosks, has partnered with Airpath Wireless to provide wireless networking (also known as Wi-Fi) capabilities to its telephone and Internet ready kiosks. Airpath Wireless is a global pioneer in management systems for the provision of wireless public access networks known as "Hotspots". Airpath's WiBOSS(TM) management platform currently serves the back-office provision needs of about 400 Wireless Internet Service Providers and 1800 Hotspots worldwide. The final result is a seamless Wi-Fi experience for the end user. The customer will enter a venue where a Marconi kiosk is located and either access the Internet directly from the kiosk or wirelessly through the broadband Internet signal emitted by the kiosk. Meanwhile, Airpath's WiBOSS(TM) platform is managing the end-user's entire Wi-Fi experience, from authorization to billing. The partnership will involve Marconi referring Airpath Wireless' WiBOSS(TM) platform to potential customers who are interested in entering the Hotspot industry as well as to Marconi's current list of customers. Giving Marconi customers access to Airpath's web-based WiBOSS(TM) platform will empower kiosk owners to install and manage Hotspots anywhere in the world, thereby expanding the global wireless footprint. Kiosk owners will maintain complete control over management elements (branding, pricing, roaming) as well as over the Hotspot hardware installed in the kiosk.
